Frequently, the effects of Chiropractic treatment are enhanced when applied in conjunction with muscle therapy to treat the joints and muscles. These additional therapies can be:
The length of a course in Chiropractic treatment to treat an ailment depends on how long the nerve and joint have been irritated. Most people start feeling better after the first or second treatment. Chiropractic treatment is continued through the healing process to support the body. The body takes time to heal, and people heal at different rates. Treatment of an ailment might continue for a few weeks, or longer in some cases
A course of Chiropractic treatment usually begins with frequent treatments and then tapers off to less frequently as healing occurs. Treatment places the body in a new position, and the body must be trained to maintain that corrected position. Muscles need to develop to hold that position. The speed at which treatment is no longer needed depends upon the speed of healing, and can be affected by general health, nutrition, rest, exercise, and occupational strains. Every patient is different.
Some patients may opt to continue Chiropractic treatment on an ongoing basis. Just like your teeth, your spine needs lifetime care to maintain health. Periodic visits to our office for Chiropractic adjustment is a regimen that several of our patients opt for to prevent future injury. Personally I get treated once a month to maintain optional spinal alignment

Part of any patient's healing process is an exercise plan because corrective exercises help maintain a correct posture, Corrective exercises speed the time to getting pain free and staying pain free.
Our patients are taught exercises that strengthen the muscles that support the skeleton. Strengthening exercises are taught for the neck muscles, the lower back, sitting and standing positions.
Patients may also be taught stretches to help them. Muscle spasm and incorrect posture can allow the spine and skeleton to slip out of correct position, and prevent it from easily moving back. Stretches can help the skeleton to move more easily back to it's correct position. Stretching exercises can be important to healing and maintenance of optimal condition.
Corrective excerises regimens start with an in office exercise program. A home exercise program is also given to the patient. As the patient's condition improves, the exercise program is revised to reflect the changing needs.
Certain lifestyle patterns can cause or exacerbate a condition that causes pain or discomfort.
Lifestyle choices can include anything from being too sedentary, overexercise, work position and posture, repetitive motions, and even dietary choices. Some of the changes suggested may be for temporary changes until healing occurs. Some suggestions may be for permanent changes.
Lifestyle advice can be discussed any time the patient has a question or as a change in lifestyle causes a noticeable change in condition. As the patient heals, restrictions and recommendations are reviewed and updated.
To a limited extent, we will supply nutritional counselling. Some foods and dietary supplements can have beneficial effects such as anti-inflammatory properties. Other foods can have negative effects. Nutrition and weight issues can also be a factor in the speed of healing and the likelihood of relapse.
Of course, dietary choices are a very personal thing, and are influenced by culture. We are not dietary police. We are knowledgeable in the benefits of good diet and will gently offer good nutritional advice without being overly intrusive.
If desired, we can arrange for more detailed nutritional counselling with a licensed dietary counselor.
